Here is some information to help you anticipate what you can expect while enjoying your stay at Cabin Creek.
Location – The 96 acre forest property is located in Southern Livingston - Northern Allegany Counties. We are 15 minutes West of Letchworth State Park, and 20 minutes West of Stony Brook State Park, two great natural attractions to enjoy, and then return to the seclusion of our exclusive Cabin Creek property.
Cabins – We have 2 completely off-grid cabins, located a 1/2 mile apart. The larger cabin, sleeping 6-8, is located at the mouth of Cabin Creek ravine. The smaller cabin, sleeping 2-4, is situated up on the North rim of the ravine. Both cabins are outfitted with a solar powered 12 volt electrical system, supplying power for lights. You can leave your electrical appliances at home, and enjoy the great outdoors! A large tank holding well water above the cabin provides gravity flow for the kitchen & bathroom. Our 4-burner cook stove and camper-size refrigerator are powered by propane. Our hot water is also powered by propane. The bathroom is equipped with an odorless composting toilet. There are campfire grates for cooking outside. Cooking pots, pans, utensils, & percolator coffee pot and french press are provided.
Terrain – The terrain around Cabin Creek is beautiful and rugged. The slopes of the ravine itself rise quickly, and there is an elevation change of over 500 feet from the cabin to the highest point on the property. You can hike up to the top, and see the Town of Geneseo, 25 miles off in the distance! The change in elevation creates many cascading waterfalls on Cabin Creek, with the 3 largest ranging from 10 to 15 foot falls. There are also flat benches of terrain, with gentle slopes to enjoy, so you don’t have to be a mountain goat to hike at Cabin Creek. We have several miles of intersecting logging roads from the 2012 timber harvest, making access relatively easy.
Wildlife – We have very abundant wildlife. In addition to timber and firewood production, the property is managed for deer and turkey hunting. We do have bears occasionally, but are spooked easily. It’s common to hear the coyotes yipping at night, but they are very elusive. Raccoons are seen around dark if you’re quiet. Endangered Fisher and Pine Martins have been seen recently on the property. On very special occasions, a lonesome bobcat will send shivers up your spine as he calls for a mate. We still haven’t seen a sasquatch, but hey, you never know!
Camping- We can accommodate RVs at the cabin site with water hook up only, but sites with no hook ups are also available at two other locations away from the cabin. We can be very flexible with tent sites, and have some deep woods sites that you can drive in to.
Hunting & Fishing – Guest Hunters enjoy hunting in Letchworth State Park (15 minutes away) and the 7,700 Acre Rattlesnake Hill Wildlife Management Area just across the valley from the cabin. The combination of vast wooded hills and agricultural crop production in the valley make for excellent hunting. Deer feed in the valley on the corn, soy bean, and alfalfa fields, and then bed on the ridges, so it’s easy to take advantage of their daily movements. (Trust us; our strategy works, as evidenced by the collection of racks on the cabin walls!)
Cabin Creek also offers a couple of nice fishing opportunities. Guests can catch native brook trout on Canaseraga Creek, a NYS Registered Trout Stream, which runs through the southern end of our farm property. Bass, Bluegill, and Bullheads can be caught on Klaussner’s Pond, with public access just 1 mile south of Cabin Creek on Route 70. Cabin Creek feeds both of these bodies of water. The Genesee River is 15 minutes away, and Silver Lake is just 15 minutes farther.
We Provide: Cooking utensils, plates, silverware, percolator coffee pot and a french press; salt, pepper and many other seasonings and drinking water. We provide bath towels, wash cloths, kitchen towels...etc. We also provide pillows. Guests should bring their own bed linen (sheets, pillow cases, blankets), or we can provide them for you at a cost of $15 per bed. Please let us know in advance so we can have beds made up upon your arrival.
Items to bring: Food, snacks and drinks. Remember that we do not have electricity so all cooking will be over an open fire or on the cookstove inside the cabin. You may want to bring a cooler to keep drinks cold since the dorm size refrigerator will be taken up by the food you bring. Don't forget the coffee! We do have a Duncan Donuts 3 miles down the road. Bring bug spray, and good hiking boots and/or shoes that can go through water. Flip flops are fine inside the cabin, but not out on the trails.
